COUN 531 Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling (3 credits)

Introduces the student to the legal and ethical concerns in working with students in schools and clients in the community. Students will learn the ethical standards of the American Counseling Association as well as Pennsylvania school code and state law as it applies to the role of the counselor. Examples of issues to be addressed include varieties of consent, confidentiality, and privileged communication, the rights of parents, child abuse reporting, and dual relationships, among others.
