EDUC 609 Supervised Field Experience in Reading (6 credits)

Prerequisites: EDUC 527, EDUC 601, EDUC 603, and EDUC 605. Offered Fall and Spring. Students will complete part of their coursework on the Holy Family University Northeast Campus and part of their coursework in a local school assigned by their supervisor. Note: No courses may be taken concurrently with EDUC 609. Students must preregister for this course.

Serves as the final experience of the Reading Specialist program and involves application of diagnostic and inductive teaching strategies in supervised small group settings. Students evaluate the literacy of K-12 students and determine their learning needs, strengths, and interests. In a clinical teaching environment, the students review the pupil’s academic records, establish and collaboratively implement instructional programs, and evaluate the results of instruction.
