Stephen B. Bates is an Accounting Instructor in the School of Business Administration, teaching advanced, intermediate, managerial and financial accounting, auditing, financial analysis, senior seminar and taxation. He has over forty years of business experience originating in public accounting at KPMG, primarily in taxation and audit, and a business career including corporate turnarounds, two successful start ups, general corporate management, complex financing arrangements that include two initial public offerings, one of which was through the London Stock Exchange. Additionally, Mr. Bates has done expert witness work, both domestic and international, and founded and expanded a consulting company specializing in business valuation, restructuring and mergers.
As a business professor, Mr. Bates has taught accounting, finance, statistics and advanced taxation, at both the graduate and undergraduate level at several Philadelphia area universities; Saint Joseph’s University-Graduate School of Business, Kutztown University-College of Business, Albright College-School of Business, and Immaculata University. Mr. Bates holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Drexel University, a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance from Drexel University, and is currently a Doctorate of Business Administration Candidate at Wilmington University with an estimated completion date of January 2014.
Robert P. Brennan is a former Internal Revenue Agent with over 37 years of experience in dealing with the Internal Revenue Service. As an agent he was responsible for the examination of individual, corporate and partnership returns. He has been qualified and has testified as an expert summary witness both for the government and the defense in criminal tax cases brought by the government. As a Revenue Agent he specialized in Income Reconstruction cases and authored Internal Revenue Manual sections dealing with reconstructing income where no books or records exist.
Since leaving the Internal Revenue Service his expertise is dealing with the Internal Revenue Service in civil and criminal tax matters. These matters include civil examinations, collections matters and criminal investigations. Having been a former Agent, this “government” mindset is invaluable in understanding where the IRS is coming from and how to effectively settle the case. He also specializes in conducting fraud examinations/forensic accounting investigations.
Bob is currently an Instructor of Accounting at Holy Family University teaching Forensic Accounting and other business related courses. He was a Director at CBIZ MHM, Inc. where he specialized in litigation support services. Bob was also an Adjunct Professor at Philadelphia University teaching “Business Fraud” in their MBA program. He has also been on the faculty of Ursinus College and Penn State University.
Bob is a lecturer for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He has lectured before numerous professional organizations on the topic of Forensic Accounting and how to conduct a Fraud Examination.
Kris Froelich is a CPA with over 25 years of experience including Big 4 public accounting, controllership, and management consulting. She graduated cum laude, with a Master’s Degree (MS) in Accounting from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. She began her career with PriceWaterhouseCoopers where she spent over four years in the audit and assurance business in Dallas, TX. She relocated to Philadelphia, and was recruited by Comcast Corporation, where she spent five years as a cable system controller. Subsequently, she has held accounting management as well as director-level roles for specialized executive search firms serving the accounting and finance community in the Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware areas. She is currently Managing Director – Philadelphia, for the financial management consulting division of Randstad, the second largest global staffing and recruiting company.
Kris has also served on the board of directors for the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) in Philadelphia and has been a guest speaker at numerous CPE seminars and engagements. She is also a past member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and is a current member of the AICPA.
Karl Malaszczyk holds a B.A. in Accounting from William Paterson University and a M.S. in Taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He received his Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law and a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Villanova also in Taxation.
He has been practicing in public accounting for over 25 years. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is licensed as an Attorney at Law in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He also holds a designation as a Personal Financial Specialist. A sole practitioner, he specializes in tax, estate and financial planning.
Karl is currently and Adjunct faculty member at Holy family University teaching management accounting and other related topics. He is an Elder at the Church of the Good Samaritans Mennonite Church and works heavily in children’s programs.
Bob Walsh is a broadly experienced professional who applies his diverse background to helping manufacturers enhance growth and profitability. Bob attended LaSalle University, where he earned his BS in Accounting and his MA in Management Information Systems.
As a DVIRC senior advanced manufacturing specialist, Bob assists clients in building business value by enhancing manufacturing operations, information technology and team dynamics. In addition to providing consulting services, Bob develops curriculum and serves as an instructor with the DVIRC Institute for World Class Manufacturing.
Since joining DVIRC in 2003, Bob has worked with more than 60 area manufacturers. He brings a wealth of experience to the table, including more than a decade of responsibility with Wiremold Company, where he served as controller, IT director and material systems manager
Bob is currently an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Holy Family University teaching Accounting. Bob is also an Adjunct Professor at La Salle University teaching Information Systems.
